FIREFIGHTERS in Scarborough last night rescued a dog whose leg was impaled on a metal spike.
The collie dog - called Holly - had been trying to jump a fence on Castle Road when her leg became impaled on a sharpened metal spike hidden in leaves and branches covering the fence.
Two fire crews tried to placate Holly while they cut the metal spike off the fence, and called for a vet who sedated the dog so the spike could be removed from her leg.
A spokesman said Holly was then taken to a vet's surgery for an operation on the soft tissue and tendon in her injured leg, but her condition was not thought to be life threatening.
