Staithes harbour wall to be rebuilt

A COLLAPSED wall on the harbour in Staithes will be rebuilt in a major scheme by Scarborough council.

The wall in Beckside collapsed a year ago, taking with it a brick-built store.

The collapse left the roadway, buried utility services and three adjoining cottages at risk, but now the authority has been given approval by the North York Moors National Park to restore the area.

Planning officer Peter Jones said the area will also be cobbled and the store will be rebuilt.

He said the aim was to protect the character of the Staithes conservation area and to protect the quality of life of local residents, along with the enjoyment of visitors to the village.
