RESIDENTS are being given the chance to start composting at home for under £10.

Ryedale District Council, in partnership with York & North Yorkshire Waste Partnership (YNYWP) is holding a subsidised one-day sale of compost bins on Saturday, September 6, at the council’s Streetscene Depot in Showfield Lane, Malton.

A 220-litre Compost Converter bin will cost only £8 and the 330-litre version £9 – a fraction of the recommended retail price of £34.95 Bins must be pre-ordered and paid for in advance as there will be no cash sales on the day.

Bins can be ordered anytime from Monday, August 4, by phoning YNYWP on 01609 532512, from 8.30am to 5pm Monday to Thursday and 8am to 4.30pm on Fridays, until Thursday, September 4.

Residents will be able to purchase a maximum of two compost bins per household at the subsidised price. Demand is expected to be high and stocks are strictly limited.
