THE average cost of a home in the North York Moors National Park has reached £250,000, reveals a new survey on house prices.

The report, published by the park authority, said figures from the Land Registry, show that a detached house now costs just under £323,000, while a semi-detached property averages £218,515, and a terraced home, £189,840.

House prices had been increasing year-on-year, said the report, but then dropped dramatically as a result of the recession, but are now rising again.

In the Ryedale district, the average cost of a property is £287,622 for a detached property, which is well above the average figure for the Yorkshire and Humber region of £159,471.

“The overall sale price of homes in the National Park increased by three per cent in 2013, compared to 1.4 per cent sold across the region,” said the report.

Four properties in the park were sold in the past year for more than £650,000.

“House price increases in the park outstripped increases across the Yorkshire and Humber region,” added the report.

“With experts anticipating significant growth in the housing market over the next five years, the recent decline in owner occupation levels are likely to continue.”
