TWO free family festivals are being organised by the North York Moors to celebrate National Parks Week.

National Parks Week is an annual celebration of the places, people and things to be found within the UK’s 15 National Parks and this year takes place from this Monday to August 3.

ParkFest will be held at The Moors National Park Centre, Danby, on Sunday, and offers a full day of walks, talks, live music, activities and demonstrations.

The focus at Sutton Bank National Park Centre for MoorFest on Sunday, August 3, on the moorland heritage of the North York Moors. In addition to information and displays on bee keeping and drystone walling, the Danelaw Living History Group brings the area’s history to life with storytelling, face painting, food tasting and crafts.

Events in between the two festivals celebrate the wildlife and heritage of the North York Moors including guided walks, foraging and bug hunting as well as bushcraft, kayaking and mountain biking. via East Barnby Outdoor Centre.

Sally Ann Smith, Events and Exhibitions Coordinator for the NYMNPA, said, “There’s plenty for children and families to do throughout National Parks Week with over 15 events and something different each day. Don’t forget to keep an eye out for our pink sheep at the centres and out and about in the North York Moors - spot three and you’ll be entered into a great prize draw.”
