RUN or Dye - the world’s most colourful 5km - is making a splash with the announcement of its first ever run in Ryedale.

The event, which takes place in 150 cities around the world, involves participants lining up in white running gear, tutus, or dressed head to toe in fancy dress ready to take on a 5km challenge.

This year, eight events are planned in the UK including Castle Howard on Saturday, August 9.

Those taking part walk, run, or dance through the course, as volunteers blast them with custom-coloured showers of safe, eco-friendly, plant-based cornstarch dye at a minimum of five Dye Stations.

After they cross the finish line participants can take part in the Run or Dye world-famous Dye Festival where they “Tie-Dye the Sky" with an explosion of colours.

Jake Ackerman, founder and CEO of Viral Events, said: “We are thrilled to come to York with the Run or Dye series.

“One of our core values is to give back to every community we partner with. To this end, we are speaking to a number of charities with a view to donating a portion of the event’s proceeds. However, if there’s a charity out there that shares our vision we’d love to hear from them.”

Run or Dye draws its inspiration from the ancient Hindu festival of Holi, also known as the “Festival of Colours.”

Katie Pryor, Events Manager at Castle Howard, York said: "We are delighted to welcome Run or Dye to Castle Howard this August. The 5k route takes in much of the spectacular scenery surrounding the house and it will be great to see this fun filled, family event bringing an explosion of colour to the grounds."
