Two canoeists escaped unhurt when their vessels got stuck beneath the railway bridge on the River Derwent in Malton.
One canoe capsized but the other paddler made it to the bank and both were rescued unharmed by the fire service, police said.
They were given check-ups by the ambulance service but were “just a bit soggy and cold,” a police spokesman said.
The canoes drifted downstream and have not been recovered.
