THE annual Ryedale Dog Rescue’s summer fun dog show takes place at Scampston Park, near Rillington, on Sunday.

This year there are 14 classes with everything from the “most appealing eyes” to the “best child handler”, with winners of each class going on to contest the ultimate “best in show”.

Last year, this was won by Tilly, a Staffordshire bull terrier, who was once a Ryedale Dog Rescue dog before she was rehome.

Rosie Stephenson, co-ordinator for Ryedale Dog Rescue, said: “It was great to see Tilly win last year as she demonstrated that rescue dogs make fantastic family pets, which is what we aim to promote at our shows.

“As well as a great chance for fundraising opportunity for us, this also gives us the opportunity to talk to people about rescue dogs and the work that we do.”

In addition to the show there will be demonstrations from East Yorkshire Agility Club with the chance to “have a go” at agility with your dog and the Vale of Pickering Dog Training Club will be giving an obedience display. There will also be lots of stalls, children’s games, tombolas and refreshments.

“Everyone always enjoys our shows as we try and make sure that there is something for everyone and people and dogs can have a fun day within a friendly atmosphere,” said Rosie.

Gates open and entries will be taken from 11am and the dog show classes will run from noon until 4 pm.
