VINTAGE tractor fanatics and local residents are being encouraged to come out to support the second Ryedale and Hambleton vintage tractor run.

Brian Hall, 47, of Hawnby, is organising the ride, which will cover 35 miles, to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support in memory of his mum Dot, who died from cancer just two months ago.

Brian said that he wanted to use this tractor run as a way to raise money to give back to the charity which supported his mum and his family during a difficult time.

He said: "We lost mum just a few months ago and it all happened so quickly. We didn't have time to get in touch with Macmillan but we wanted to raise money for the charity to give something back to help people who might be going through something similar.

"Mum absolutely loved vintage tractors so we are doing this in her memory. I am so proud to be organising this, she would love to have been part of the day."

On Sunday, June 22 about 25 vintage tractors will set off from the village hall in Hawnby at 10am towards Sutton Bank before heading to Kilburn and Kirby Knowle as part of the route.

Last year the tractor ride raised more than £3,000 and Brian, along with organisers Vicky Houghton and brothers Stephen and Wayne Barr, hopes that residents of the local villages will come out to take part in the celebrations and support the cause.

At the end of the route there will be a raffle and a BBQ courtesy of Marleys butchers and Thomas the Baker.
