PLANS have been unveiled to create an “artisan food community” in Malton as part of the town’s drive to become the food capital of Yorkshire.

Talbot Yard intends to act as an incubator for up-and-coming food entrepreneurs by providing them with newly refurbished premises and a picturesque communal space in which to establish themselves.

The cluster of six units, located opposite the renowned Talbot Hotel and the James Martin Restaurant, is being fully restored and refurbished.

Tenant parking spaces are also being provided as part of the £500,000 refurbishment scheme.

To further demonstrate the commitment to attracting high-quality food producers to the town, a Made in Malton initiative has also been launched.

Organisers say the Made in Malton brand/’sign of quality’ can be used as a mark of origin on product packaging.

It will also offer joint marketing opportunities, capable of ‘spreading the word’ to a much wider audience.
