A MICRO-brewery planned for Helmsley has been recommended for approval to the North York Moors National Park Authority by the town council.
The application by Kyle Boote is to use and extend an existing building in Bridge Street and to provide a shop and viewing gallery for the public to see the brewing process, town councillors were told.
However, there had been objections from neighbours concerned about possible smell, but town council chairman Councillor Chris Parkin said the brewery would only be producing some 36 gallons of beer a day and any smells could be dealt with by a proposed ventilation unit.
Waste hops would also be an advantage to gardeners, he added.
Councillor Martin Vander Weyer said the brewery would be an additional tourist attraction for Helmsley.
Councillors agreed to support the application subject to satisfactory arrangements for dealing with odours from the operation.
