A SENIOR executive of the rail operator East Coast has been co-opted as a new member of Malton Town Council.
Paul Emberley, of Castle Howard Road, Malton, replaces the late Councillor Jason Fitzgerald-Smith, who died earlier this year.
He was one of two residents who asked to be considered for the position, the other being Jeremy Powell, of the Palace Cinema.
Mr Emberley has worked in York as director of communications for East Coast Railways and previously held a similar position with Metro Net, which master-minded the modernisation of the London Underground.
He has also worked for Trafalgar House.
His interests include classical organ playing and is an occasional organist at Malton’s Saville Street Methodist Church.
He also enjoys walking, gardening and cycling.
Mr Emberley said:”I believe Malton has some great opportunities ahead,” adding that he hoped that whatever development is eventually carried out in the town, is sensitive to its historic character.
