THE Prince’s Regeneration Trust is kicking off a new UK-wide training and mentoring programme with a workshop in Malton.
Building Resources, Investment and Community Knowledge (BRICK) is a three-year programme funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and a number of corporate sponsors, and it is aimed at community groups taking forward heritage-led regeneration projects.
The day-long event, at the Milton Rooms, will bring together community groups in the Yorkshire area and beyond interested in learning about how to maximise commercial gain from heritage projects through franchises, leasing and rentals.
The event will also cover working in partnership with the private sector and fundraising through community shares.
Speakers include representatives of the Ethical Property Foundation, Hugh Rolo from Locality, Chris Brown from Igloo and Jess Steele from Jericho Road Solutions.
The event will also feature interactive sessions and surgeries with the speakers, as well as presentations from a couple of community lead regeneration projects in the region – Grimsby Ice Factory and Portland Works in Sheffield – and a tour of the Milton Rooms, which is itself a regeneration project. The event will be chaired by Ros Kerslake, the Prince’s Regeneration Trust’s chief executive.
A spokesman for BRICK said: “We encourage all groups and contacts to take the opportunity to learn through BRICK over the next three years and further develop the skills and knowledge necessary in order to successfully complete a regeneration project.”
The workshop will be held on Thursday, May 8 and costs £20 per person, including lunch and refreshments.
A small number of travel bursaries are available on application.
