NEW homes are to be built in Rillington and Welburn after being given approval by Ryedale District Council’s planning committee.

Four houses are earmarked for land at the rear of 43 Scarborough Road, Rillington, two five bedroom detached properties and two three bedroomed semi-detached homes.

Councillors had previously deferred a decision to make a site visit because of concerns about the height of the properties and highway safety. Approval was also given by the committee to plans to build three four-bedroom homes at The Croft, Main Street, Welburn, despite letters from 12 objectors who said the scheme would be an over- development and would overshadow neighbouring properties and gardens.

Planning officer Rachel Smith said that while the development in relation to neighbours was “balanced”, the plan was recommended for approval, subject to conditions.

Other schemes approved included change of use and alterations to a garage to create a holiday cottage at 60 Main Street, Ebberston; agricultural livestock building, and the siting of a mobile home at Westfield Farm Low Lane, Westow.

Plans refused by the committee: installation of a 10,000-litre capacity fuel oil tank at Ellis Patents, High Street, Rillington, and a timber cabin for a temporary rural workers at Cornborough Road, Sheriff Hutton.
