SCARBOROUGH Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) has received a generous donation towards its ongoing Supacat appeal from a York ladies group called the Dollie Mixtures.
The group chose Scarborough RNLI as their charity of the year for 2013 and recently presented them with a cheque for £1,543 to the lifeboat station.
The money will be donated to Scarborough RNLI’s fundraising appeal, which hopes to generate £200,000 towards the cost of a bespoke Supacat launch and recovery vehicle for the new Shannon class lifeboat due on station in 2015.
Charmaine Fenton, chairwoman of the Dollie Mixtures, explained: “We regularly hold fun events. past examples have included fashion shows, singing sessions and floristry evenings - There’s a raffle at each and all the proceeds go to our charity of choice.
“Last year’s main event was a Caribbean night with themed dress, a steel band and an auction of bottles of rum and lovely goodies donated by local businesses. Everyone really enjoyed the evening and there was the added bonus that we were raised essential funds for the charity that saves lives at sea.”
