Library outlet opens in Deansfield Court, Norton
Updated 11:16am Wednesday 16th April 2014 in News
BOOK fans in Norton have an additional library facility in the town.
A new outlet has been provided in Yorkshire Housing’s Deansfield Court Extra Care Housing Scheme at Furlongs Avenue, off Beverley Road. The facility, which includes a lounge area with café, is the latest addition to a new generation of library services across the county, located in settings such as schools, village halls and extra care facilities.
It offers a selection of books for all the family which includes audio books for the visually impaired or for those who prefer to sit back and listen to a book being read to them.
Volunteers are also needed to help out at the library outlet, maintaining stock, shelving returned books and assisting customers.
Yorkshire Housing’s Extra Care Manager Elaine Humble said: “We look forward to welcoming members of the public to Deansfield Court to use the library. It is a great new service for the community and can also be enjoyed by our residents.”
“We are looking for caring people who are able to make a regular commitment to this valuable service and who don’t mind spending a few minutes chatting to readers."
The library at Deansfield Court compliments the services offered at Malton and Norton libraries and can be accessed by members of North Yorkshire County Council’s library service. If you are not a member, you can join at Deansfield Court or any North Yorkshire library. Library membership is free and joining is quick and easy.
County Councillor Chris Metcalfe, Executive Member for Library Services, said: “We’re very pleased indeed to have been involved in this development. The new library will provide an excellent service not only for the residents of Deansfield Court, but for the wider community too.”
