A WORKING mother of three from Amotherby has been crowned Working Mum of The Year in Pitman Training's Super Achievers Awards 2014.

Martina Mercer, 34, has worked tirelessly to provide a good role model for her children, balancing her own cleaning business whilst studying for a journalism degree at night despite being left as a single parent at the age of 26 in thousands of pounds worth of debt.

Motivated by her children, Martina now runs her own copywriting business and has won numerous awards including a customer service silver award and was a finalist in the Northern Star Business Awards last year.

Her efforts have not gone unnoticed either after she was crowned Working Mum of the Year which recognises dedicated mums who have worked hard in their careers to improve the lives of their families.

Martina said: "I am absolutely delighted to have won it. I still don't know who nominated me but I have a sneaky suspicion that it was someone who works for me."

Martina also recently travelled down to London with her nine-year-old daughter, Poppy, after discovering that she had been shortlisted for the Inspirational Mother Awards 2014 where they were treated to afternoon tea with Gloria Hunniford at the May Fair Hotel.

The copywriter, who has two other children, Mitchell, 13 and Percy, two, said that once again she was left stunned after being told that she was nominated and said it was a pleasure to be nominated alongside such inspiring mothers.

"The mothers that did win have all done such amazing work really," she said.

"They have all kept so positive have raised some astonishing amounts for charity. There were some really inspirational women."
