PEOPLE who struggle to find a car parking space in Whitby, particularly at weekends and during the holidays, will now be able to use a new park-and ride-service.

The service will open on Good Friday and is being provided by North Yorkshire County Council as part of its commitment to ensuring the continued prosperity of communities around the county – and to alleviate the problems of traffic congestion that have plagued Whitby for many years.

County councillor Joe Plant, the divisional member for Whitby Streonshalh, said: “Tourism is the key to Whitby’s continued prosperity and making it much easier for visitors to get into and out of the town without clogging up the highways network and without making the daily life of the residents more difficult is a major step forward.”
