SPECIAL Constables from North Yorkshire Police took part in a national scheme to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour last weekend.
The scheme, as part of National Specials' Weekend, saw volunteer officers working with police and PCSOs with events in North Yorkshire seeing 62 Special Constables on patrol and search warrants executed.
In Scarborough, local Specials were joined by colleagues from York and Selby to prevent anti-social behaviour and a team of Hambleton and Richmondshire specials worked with colleagues from Durham and Cumbria to tackle cross border criminals.
In York and Harrogate, Specials held cycle marking events and educated cyclists about lighting and security, and Specials were in Hemsley Market Place supporting the Bikesafe campaign.
Superintendent Richard Anderson portfolio holder for the Special Constabulary for North Yorkshire Police, said: “This weekend is a demonstration of the amazing commitment given by members of the Special Constabulary. Special Constables commit to four hours a week when they join the force. However, many of them often give far more than this, working full shifts alongside their regular colleagues.
“The range of work planned for the officers shows the vital part they play in today’s policing family. I know from personal experience how much they are valued by the regular colleagues they work alongside.”
