WHAT used to be a collection of run down farm buildings have been transformed in to luxury holiday cottages and are in the running for a top property award.

The West View Farm project at Farndale Estate, managed by Strutt and Parker, has seen a range of listed farm buildings in Church Houses transformed in to four holiday cottages now nominated in the Building Conservation and Tourism and Leisure categories in an awards ceremony dubbed the Oscars of the property world.

The RICS Pro Yorkshire Awards 2014 recognises the best in property across the region and the work of Harland Builders has been shortlisted for their transformation of the listed buildings, which also includes a ground source heat pump to remain in keeping with the renewable energy under strict planning consent.

Laura Hardy of Strutt & Parker's land management department in Northallerton said that the team were delighted with the outcome of the holiday cottages.

"It was previously a run-down eye sore in the attractive hamlet of Church Houses and it has been converted in to a charming range of cottages, sympathetic to its picturesque surroundings, with all the original features restored," she said.

"This is great news for the development of West View Farm. Working with Harland Builders, the quantity surveyor Harold Morris of Turner & Holman and the architect Peter Rayment, the outcome of this project has exceeded all our expectations."

The regional winners of the eight awards up for grabs will be announced at a black-tie ceremony on Friday, May 23 at Leeds United Football Club and will be hosted by George Clarke, host of Channel 4's Restoration Man and honorary RICS member.

The winners of the regional heat will then go on to compete for the RICS Project of the Year 2014 at the RICS Awards Grand Final in London on October 17 later this year.
