PICKERING'S Kirk Theatre is opening its box office on a regular basis after a positive reaction to an appeal for volunteers.

Manager Luke Arnold said that after a worrying time last year, the theatre was going from strength to strength.

"We have new volunteers, new fundraising initiatives alongside our Pickering Musical Society shows we have an encouraging number of outside shows bookings," he added.

To accompany the positive news, the theatre plans to open the box office doors on a weekly basis starting in April.

Luke said: "We want people to have the opportunity to call in at the theatre for their tickets, or just to find out what shows are coming up, when the youth theatre meets, what auditions are open and much more."

"Television House in the Market Place will continue to sell tickets for the shows taking place that particular month but the box office opening will enable audiences to buy for shows months ahead so getting tickets for birthday gifts or ensuring front row seats will now be possible, as well as getting all the latest theatre news."

The Kirk Theatre box office will be open every Tuesday, 11am - 2pm, starting on April 1.
