Swinton & District Excelsior Band runners-up in regional contest
Updated 1:05pm Wednesday 2nd April 2014 in News
A RYEDALE brass band has hit the right note in a regional competition.
Swinton & District Excelsior Band was awarded the runner-up position in section four of the North of England Brass Band Championships held in Darlington.
The band will now represent the North of England in the National Championship Final in Cheltenham in September.
Secretary Steve Popham said the success was a tribute to the hard work of the players and of conductor Robin Rutter.
“Now we have to embark on some serious fundraising. We will need to raise about £5,000 to enable us to travel to the finals which will involve an overnight stay, hire of a rehearsal room and two days coach hire,” he added.
Steve said they would like to hear from any group, business or individual who would like to help.
“This could be in the form of a donation, sponsorship or help with additional fundraising activities. We are hoping to organise an auction of promises and various other event such as raffles, concerts, quizzes and so on,” he added.
Anyone who would like to be part of the team should phone Steve or Tracey on 01653 696417 or visit swinton-band.org for further details.
