HUNT protestors gathered at the final meet of the Sinnington Hunt following an alleged incident at a hunt meeting earlier in the month.

About 40 members of the Hunt Saboteurs Association attended the meet in Kirkdale, on Saturday, March 15, after an alleged incident involving a hunt monitor on Saturday, March 1.

The hunt monitor, believed to be a 48-year-old local man, needed an x-ray after a video camera was allegedly stolen and a mobile phone was smashed, said Lee Moon, a member of the Hunt Saboteurs Association.

North Yorkshire Police confirmed that one arrest had been made after an incident and that inquiries were still continuing.

“As a result of an incident, a man suffered a slight hand injury and a video camera was stolen,” a police spokesman said.

“A 39-year-old man from York, arrested on suspicion of robbery, has been released on bail to allow for further police inquiries to be made.”

The police spokesman said that the alleged theft happened at about 1pm when the complainant was in a car in Ruffa Lane, Pickering.

Joint huntmaster and huntsman Adrian Dangar said that he was not aware of any violence at the meet and said that the hunt protestors had all been wearing balaclavas and had come from as far as Sheffield, Leeds and Liverpool. “They had no connection with Ryedale, where hunting in various guises has been a tradition for more than 300 years,” he said.
