A PICKERING fish and chip shop has been named as having the Best Chippy Chips in North Yorkshire.

Potter Hill Fisheries beat competition from hundreds of chip shops in the county to take the honour of the shop with the tastiest chips.

The Choice Chip Awards, run by the Potato Council to tie in with Chip Week 2014, which started on Monday, said 62,983 chip lovers voted for their favourite chips with Potter Hill Fisheries’ customers securing the business the victory.

Jayne Shepherd, owner of the chip shop, said: “We are absolutely over the moon to have won it. As part of National Chip Week we are also running a couple of offers.”

For every bag of chips the shop sells during Chip Week, 20p will go towards the Newbridge Park Group, a volunteer-led group which has created bike trails, footpaths and a picnic area in a woodland setting on the edge of Pickering.

Jayne said: “We chose it because it is something for everybody in the community and a great place for walking.”
