AN ARSON investigation has been launched following a fire that destroyed part of a detached bungalow in Helmsley.

Police and firefighters from Kirkbymoorside and Pickering were called to The Limes, Helmsley, at 8.50pm on Saturday, after the fire broke out at the empty bungalow.

Part of the roof, a bedroom and the hallway were damaged.

A police spokesman said: “Officers are treating the fire as arson and an investigation is underway. The investigation is in the early stages and police are appealing for anyone who saw any suspicious activity in the area on Saturday night who has not already come forward, to contact them.”

Police said that two boys in their early teens had been arrested and interviewed in connection with the fire, but had since been released on bail while the investigation continues.

Anyone with information can phone police on 101, select option two and ask for Scarborough CID, or phone Crimestoppers, in confidence, on 0800 555 111.
