AN enterprising student has found a winning recipe for raising funds towards an expedition to help a community in Borneo.

Callum Young, a Year 11 pupil at Malton School, needs to raise £3,900 for the trip when he will spend a month as a volunteer with Camps International.

To help meet his target, Callum has been making and selling sticky toffee puddings from his home in Malton.

He has also carried out gardening jobs and used all his income from his Saturday job.

Callum said he started making and selling puddings last March, and had now sold 400.

“To raise £3,000 while also studying for GCSEs seemed a daunting prospect, but I am now about three-quarters of the way there,” he said. “The puddings have been mostly bought by friends and family or anyone we have been cheeky enough to ask. Teachers and pupils have become loyal customers too.”

Callum’s mother, Ann, said he, along with his fellow pupils going on the trip, had shown a real commitment to raising the money required.

“The aim is to contribute to environmental and community projects that will bring real benefit to the people of Borneo, as well as providing unique character-building opportunities to the pupils taking part,” she said.

If anyone would like to order one of Callum’s puddings, he can be contacted on 01653 692744 or 07899 726646. He does make gluten-free ones.

The puddings are available in three sizes, starting at £3.50.
