HUNDREDS of people have already put in applications in a new recruitment drive for Special Constables with North Yorkshire Police.

More than 400 people have already submitted applications for the roles, which are voluntary from four hours a week, and carry similar responsibilities to regular officers.

Jerry Holland who is the Special Strategic Officer for the force, said: “As a Special you will learn a range of new skills as well as developing those you already possess.

“The role played by Special Constables is vital to help North Yorkshire Police deliver the highest level of service to the communities across North Yorkshire and the city of York.

“If you have been considering joining the Special Constabulary this webchat is an excellent way of finding out more about this truly fulfilling role.

“If you aren’t able to join in on the day, you can send us a question beforehand and then read the response at a time to suit you.”

Police community support officers, Specials and regular officers are taking part in recruitment activity around the Scarborough, Whitby and Ryedale districts, and the closing date for applications is Friday, February 7, at 4.30pm.
