GAZETTE & Herald reader Mr Wicks found this photograph in the back of a second-hand frame he brought to display his artwork.
Mr Wicks believes it shows a group of soldiers at the time of the First World War. The border on the picture says the photographer was Smith, St Michael’s Street, Malton.
He thinks it may have been taken in one of the sports fields between Malton and Old Malton as there is a wall near the trees.
• Gazette & Herald readers are invited to submit any family stories and pictures of the First World War for this year’s centenary.
Pictures and information can be emailed to gazette@gazetteherald.co.uk or sent to Gazette & Herald newsdesk, 76-86 Walmgate, York, YO1 9YN.
