ONE lucky winner has won a bumper hamper of prizes by spending a fiver in Malton.
Christmas shoppers who spent at least £5 in Totally Locally Malton and Norton shops on Sundays, in December, were entered into the Totally Locally Festive Fiver draw.
Karen Saunders, of Town Street, Old Malton, was picked as the winner of this year’s prize, receiving a hamper with vouchers and goodies from 22 participating shops and businesses. She also won a massage and a luxury stay in The Talbot Hotel.
Business owner and Totally Locally member Emma Brooksbank said the Festive Fiver was the third event Malton and Norton had been involved in since the Totally Locally initiative was launched in June last year.
“The aim is to encourage people to do more of their shopping locally and to encourage the independent shops to work together,” she said.
“The founder of Totally Locally, Chris Sands, of Hebden Bridge, calculates that if everyone in and around Malton and Norton spent just £5 every week in the local independent shops which they would otherwise spend online or in a supermarket, it would add up to £2.6m more each year for our local economy.
“Cheers for your great example, Karen, you are a worthy winner and enjoy your lovely prize.”
