A woman has achieved a lifetime ambition to open her own tearoom.

Dawn Burton, of Kirkbymoorside, decided to set up her own business after returning to the catering industry when her children were older.

A trained chef, Dawn had worked at a local fruit and vegetable shop for 15 years and latterly at Beadlam Grange Farm Shop.

“It is something that I have always wanted to do and after looking for suitable premises for 18 months I secured the property in Kirkbymoorside where I was born and brought up,” she said.

She has called the tearoom Bridget’s, which is her first name, although everyone knows her as Dawn.

“My older sister couldn’t pronounce Bridget when we were little so I became known as Dawn, which is my middle name,” she asaid.

Dawn said the tearoom had been transformed by her daughter, interior designer Katie, and help is provided by Dawn’s husband, Mark and son Christopher, as well as Katie’s partner, Ben.
