A FATHER who smashed the windscreen of a car with a rock has been ordered to do 60 hours of unpaid work and pay £145.

Paul Entwistle, 28, of Eastfield Avenue, Norton, smashed the windscreen and damaged the bonnet of a VW Passat in November last year.

Entwistle’s neighbours phoned the police after they heard their neighbour arguing in the street with another man.

Entwistle told Scarborough Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, January 9, that he had felt threatened after the owner of the car had appeared in his house earlier that evening following their argument and had begun shouting at him again while holding a knife.

Entwistle pleaded guilty to criminal damage. He said: “What I did to the car was out of order, but I was in fear really. I was only doing what anybody else would do.”

He was sentenced to a 12-month community order with the requirement that he does 60 hours of unpaid work during that time. He was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £60 and £85 court costs.
