A MALE voice choir is tuning up for one of its busiest seasons.

Malton District Male Voice Choir, whose 25 members range in age from 19 to 87, meets at the town’s Methodist Church on Monday and is encouraging more people to join in.

Tom Todd, choir chairman, said: “Anyone can join a choir and almost everyone has a good enough voice to do it. Most of our latest members read about us and simply turned up on practice nights. Thankfully, most of them stayed.”

The choir sings a range of music from traditional tunes to show and popular songs. The repertoire is expanding as the choir gets bigger and is better able to support four-part male voice harmonies.

On April 5, the choir will join six other North Yorkshire choirs for the first time at the National Association of Choirs Conference Concert in Scarborough’s Westborough Methodist Church.

Then on May 31 it will take part in a joint concert at Malton School with Newchurch Male Voice Choir from the Isle of Wight.

Further concerts are planned this summer in Scarborough, Pickering, Great Edstone and Stamford Bridge.
