On Monday, January 13, David Macdonald will commence his new position as general manager at the Talbot Hotel in Malton.

In his new role, David will be responsible for the operation of the recently renovated four-star hotel and he will also oversee its critically-acclaimed restaurant, which has partner and BBC Saturday Kitchen chef James Martin at the helm.

He said: “I am delighted to be appointed as general manager of this prestigious hotel owned by the Fitzwilliam Estate. Yorkshire is the food pantry for the UK, and I am looking forward to working with Yorkshire suppliers to build on the hotel’s well established reputation for its first-class cuisine. In my new remit I will be organising speciality food and wine dinners, working with local and national figures and growing the number of weddings at the Talbot Hotel. I am particularly looking forward to bringing some fresh ideas to Malton and joining the community.''

David has had a long and successful career with Malmaison and Hotel du Vin & Bistro having worked for the company since 2001. In his latest position he was general manager of Hotel du Vin & Bistro in York where he managed a team of more than 50 members of staff. Prior to this David was the deputy general manager of Hotel du Vin & Bistro in Newcastle for four years, where he played an integral part in the launch of the hotel.

He also worked as front office manager at Malmaison, Glasgow, where he initially completed a 14 month Graduate Management Programme. A Manchester Metropolitan University graduate and active supporter of the British Heart Foundation, William Merritt Foundation and St Martins House, David is passionate about hospitality and being at the forefront of the industry.

Winner of an Acorn Award in 2011, David has recently moved to Malton with his wife and nine month old daughter.
