A MAN walking with his children has been shot at from a passing car.

The man was was walking along Queen’s Parade in Scarborough with a group of people including his young children when a passing small, dark blue hatchback fired a BB gun at them.

A pellet hit the man on his head and caused grazing.

Although he did not need hospital treatment, he was very shaken up, police said.

Two 18-year-old men were arrested nearby a short time later.

PC Gemma Johnson of Scarborough Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “This was a very frightening ordeal which left the victim very shocked. It is completely unacceptable behaviour and is taken very seriously by the police.

“Anyone who owns an imitation firearm should be aware that all reports of incidents involving firearms - imitation or real - are treated as real guns until the police are satisfied they are not. Consequently, anyone brandishing one in public could be faced with police officers armed with real guns.”

The incident happened at about 10.50pm on December 27.
