TWO Good Samaritans who stopped to help a badly injured van driver after a road accident have been urged to contact police.

The two women helped out when a white Mercedes Sprinter van and a black Mitsubishi L200 pick-up collided near the bottom of Sproxton bank, near Helmsley, at about 6.30pm on Thursday December 5.

North Yorkshire Police said the Mercedes driver, a man in his forties from the County Durham area, was taken to York Hospital, where he remains in a serious condition.

A spokesman said the Mitsubishi driver, a man in his thirties from the Helmsley area, was taken to James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough with serious injuries, but has since been discharged from hospital.
