A THREE-hour full peal was rung from St Peter’s Church in Norton on Saturday to mark a special birthday.
Gail Cater, the longest- serving member of York Minster ringers, chose the church to ring her 567th peal to celebrate her 70th birthday.
Mrs Cater, who lives in York, said it had gone very well and had been an enjoyable morning. “We played for three hours and four minutes non-stop then afterwards went for a much-needed drink and something to eat,” she said.
“Everything was carefully planned to nothing could go wrong and I was joined by experienced ringers including my husband Robert and daughter Julia.”
Mrs Cater said it had been an honour to ring the peal at St Peter’s Church. They only allow one a year so I was very privileged to be allowed to ring the peal,” she said. “It was the best birthday I’ve ever had.”
