A GOVERNMENT minister has supported plans for new signs to be installed marking the boundaries of Yorkshire’s historic Ridings.
The campaign has been launched by Andy Strangeway, from Stamford Bridge, who was also behind a competition to design flags for each of the Ridings.
He said the lack of signs indicating where motorists cross from one part of Yorkshire to another was “an insult to our cultural heritage”.
He has estimated the cost of 13 signs, in locations including Selby, Old Malton and Ripon, would cost £6,500 in total.
He has published an email sent by Eric Pickles, the Yorkshire-born Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, who congratulated Mr Strangeway and said he was “delighted” by the campaign.
