THE final Malton Food Lovers Market for this year will take place on Saturday.

With its Dickensian Christmas theme, the December Market will comprise more than 35 stalls selling seasonal foods, from 9am to 3pm, in the Milton Rooms.

Gilly Robinson, known as TV chef Rosemary Shrager’s “right hand woman”, will be hosting the market’s cookery theatre with four themed demonstrations throughout the day.

Themes will include get-ahead puddings; gifts for Christmas; stuffings and sauces; and love your leftovers. The demonstrations take place at 10.30am, 11.30am, 12.30pm and 2pm.

Gilly said: “I am delighted to be attending the Malton Food Lovers Market. The build-up to Christmas is such a busy time for everyone and this is an ideal opportunity for people to get ahead with some foodie preparation.”

Gilly will be aided by Roscoe Savage, a student from Ripon Grammar School.

“Roscoe is a natural in the kitchen and he did his first live demo with me at a food festival when he was only eight,” said Gilly. “He will be helping with the gifts for Christmas demonstration, hopefully inspiring younger members of the audience to think about being creative in the kitchen.”

Along with Roscoe, there will be an opportunity for a “non-cooking” father to try his hand at helping chef Gilly, along with a cast member from Malton and Norton Musical Theatre’s production of Dick Whittington.

Food Lovers Market organiser Tom Naylor-Leyland said: “The December Food Lovers Market promises to be a spectacular foodie event, offering a really tempting mix of Christmas-themed stalls and chef demonstrations.

“Christmas is the main foodie event of the year, and where better to find all your culinary requirements than at the Malton Food Lovers Market?”

The Food Lovers Markets will start again in March 2014, taking place on the second Saturday of each month.
