COUNCIL chiefs in Ryedale could overspend on staff salaries by £60,000 this year.

A report on Ryedale District Council’s financial performance has said that, despite a three-month block on vacant posts being filled, “low turnover” of staff means it is not making the savings forecast at the start of 2013/14.

It also forecasts that the council will make £48,000 less in recycling income than expected this year, based on the situation at the end of September, the latest figures available.

Officials said the authority predicted a £108,500 hole in its revenue budget – which covers areas such as frontline services – but £90,000 of this can be accounted for because of delays in taking out expected loans for major infrastructure projects.

Income from car-parking fees was £15,700 above the anticipated level in Ryedale at the end of September, although this is forecast to level out by the end of the financial year.
