THE mayor of Norton, Councillor Ray King, is celebrating 20 years in business.

Mr King moved to Norton in 1986 and after a stint running the Costcutter store, he set up his business, Corks and Cans off licence.

In 1993, the business expanded and has become something of a TARDIS in the town centre.

“Although it looks small on the outside, most people describe it as a TARDIS. It goes on and on once you get inside,” said Mr King, who has organised a number of prize draws to celebrate the anniversary. The business stocks a wide range of regional beers, a number created by Yorkshire-based breweries.

“We are competitive on all our wines and spirits and we pride ourselves on being an independent supplier. We are busy, there have been a lot of things to contend with recently, but we continue to take the business forward,” said Mr King, who employs 15 local, part-time staff.

The Christmas draw winners will be unveiled at the store on December 21.
