FIREFIGHTERS spent all night at the scene of a barn when it went up in smoke at Stape on the North York Moors above Pickering. The fire in the 20m by 10m building containing 150 bales of straw and 70 of hay started late on Friday afternoon and was tackled by four firefighter crews from Pickering, Kirkbymoorside, Goathland and Whitby and a water bowser crew. Two crews were still at the scene the next morning dealing with the aftermath and ensuring that the blaze didn’t start again.
