Feversham Arms in Helmsley launches £120 breakfast menu

Gazette & Herald: Feversham Arms chef Jason “Bruno” Birkbeck and the exclusive breakfast Feversham Arms chef Jason “Bruno” Birkbeck and the exclusive breakfast

FINE dining in North Yorkshire is being taken to a new level as the Feversham Arms launches its £120 breakfast menu.

The Helmsley hotel has dubbed its offering as “the UK’s Most Luxurious Breakfast”, with ingredients being flown in from around the world for the pre-ordered delicacy.

But rather than a hearty offering of the classic ‘full English’ the hotel has taken a more delicate approach.

Priced at £120 for two people, the set menu features Balik salmon, two duck eggs, Oscetra caviar, crème fraiche and mini brioche, finished off with a glass of Laurent Perrier champagne.

Charles Merchie, general manager at the award winning hotel, said: “We are a 22-suite hotel and operate in a very luxurious market place, and with that comes the requirement for really refined food.

“We are very popular for celebrations, whether it’s birthdays, anniversaries or anything, and as the market is picking up people are getting back to celebrating success.

“That is what we are catering for with this breakfast, people indulging in luxury.”

The menu was put together by the hotel’s head chef Jason Birkbeck, and uses local duck eggs, combined with imported salmon from the Norwegian fjords which has been transported over the Ricken pass to Ebersol in Switzerland where it is delicately smoked using a secret Russian recipe.

Sounds disgusting. too many strong flavours fighting for attention. and then a delicate champagne, for those with more money than taste, food or otherwise.

Blimey and I had to make do with quale’s eggs and smoked trout this morning. Anyway having just watched the news I would rather make a very enjoyable breakfast for two which would cost nowhere near ten quid then send fifty quid to the DEC appeal for the Philippines typhoon victims. This would leave me with the remaining sixty quid for a dinner for two sometime over the Christmas hols. Just a thought but I know which I would find easier to digest.

So, at a time when everyone is trying to be 'green' and cut down their carbon footprint to help stop global warming, and also helping to promote good local produce, this chef will happily serve a dish which includes salmon that has travelled the scenic route from Norway to the UK via Switzerland. I am surprised that he states he uses local duck eggs....aren't there rare, overrated, golden duck eggs that could've been imported from LaLaLand? Why is The Press helping to advertise this ludicrous, unaffordable, creation?

btw if anyone wants to try this breakfast at home just search your local supermarket. The same products, though obviously non-overhyped cheaper knock-off versions, can be obtained off the shelf and a breakfast for 2 should cost no more than £15-£20 (or £5-£10 if you don't want the champagne).

Variety is the spice of life. I think they make a fair point that they serve celebrations and sometimes people want to be extravagant. Have to leave room to aspire in life I think, not that I would like this but it's better than communism and being more or less told what you are having for breakfast and what you are going to earn where by dictators. Just as long as success is on merit as much as possible. Can't hate people for having money when most people want it and many so called good salts of the earth steal from work and dodge tax in cash payments and even chase promotions purely for more money. I agree the ingredients might be more local though but they may refine that.
