Helmsley shops to take part in Small Business Saturday
A RYEDALE jewellers shop has been included among the 100 UK firms that are being featured in promotions ahead of the first dedicated day focused on small businesses.
Libby Butler Jewellers will be teaming up with other independent business in Helmsley to provide special offers and extra services for visitors on Small Business Saturday UK, which takes place on December 7.
These will include a man creche, storytelling for children, food and drink tasting events, as well as other festive happenings in various locations across the town.
The Helmsley in Business group is also approaching Ryedale District Council to get them on board with car parking discounts for the event.
Championed across the country by Chuka Umunna, the Shadow Secretary of State for Business Innovation and Skills, the initiative has already supported by the Prime Minister and the Business Secretary, Vince Cable.
The non-political campaign will highlight small business success and encourage consumers to shop local and support small businesses in their communities.
Small Business Saturday UK initiative has attracted the support of leading business organisations, including the Association of City and Town Management, Federation of Small Businesses, Association of Convenience Stores and Ingenious Britain, as well as corporates like American Express, O2, Aldermore Bank, Make It Cheaper and prominent entrepreneur James Caan.
Carolyn Frank, of Libby Butler Jewellers, said the event was the perfect opportunity to show off the 50-plus independent businesses in Helmsley and the special atmosphere in the town at Christmas.
“We are looking forward to showing people what it means to Keep Trade Local, and highlighting the great things that we can offer both the local community and visitors all year round,” she said.
“It’s really exciting. It’s our fifth Christmas in Helmsley as owners of the business and I think it’s going to be the best yet.
“I hope people will come and join us to celebrate all that’s great about independent businesses and start the Christmas season in style.
“There’s so many different things happening on the day, it will be really fun and very festive.”
Chris Garnett, chairman of Helmsley in Business, said the town was the ideal place for Small Business Saturday.
“We have such a wide range of quality, independent businesses, and in the run up to Christmas the place is magical,” he said. “It’s a great place to come and do Christmas shopping, pick up some really unusual gift ideas, relax with a cup of coffee or a pint, and just enjoy the festivities.
“With all the extra activities planned for Saturday, December 7, it should be the perfect start to the festive season. We’re all excited to be involved.”
