Whitewall Quarry site visit planned
2:26pm Wednesday 16th October 2013 in News
AN OPEN day is being held at Whitewall Quarry in Norton on Saturday following concerns raised by nearby residents.
Residents had been asked to register their interest in attending before the event. However, people can now just turn up on the day between 10.30am and 2.30pm where quarry representatives will be on hand to answer questions.
W Clifford Watts Ltd has applied for planning permission to install an asphalt production plant at the quarry on the outskirts of the town.
The application is due to be discussed by North Yorkshire County Council’s planning committee on December 10.
Residents living in Welham Road and Whitewall have voiced concerns that the expansion would lead to an increase in pollution and lorry movements.
They have launched a petition and a residents’ group to fight the application.
Coun Elizabeth Shields (Lib Dem), who represents Norton at County Hall, said she would be contacting W Clifford Watts to talk directly with directors.
“I have also been in touch with the head of planning at the county council to ensure I am given five minutes at the start of the planning meeting to put forward all the points made by the residents if that is what the majority feel by that time,” she said.
“I have also asked for an inspection of the site by members so that they can come and see the quarry and get a complete picture before any judgement is made.”
