Child's buggy mistaken for bomb
AN Army bomb squad carried out a controlled explosion in a North Yorkshire seaside town today after a child's buggy was mistaken for a bomb.
North Yorkshire Police cordoned off a section of Westborough, Scarborough, this morning, after a suspicious device was reported outside the Miss Selfridge store just before 9am.
Neighbouring shops were evacuated and a 100m perimeter was cordoned off around the site as a precaution, while the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team were called from Catterick Garrison.
A controlled explosion was carried out at 12.15pm today, and after examination of the scene, a spokesman confirmed the item was a discarded child's buggy, some speakers and some batteries.
