A MOTHER-OF-TWO is hoping to use her yoga sessions to create a sanctuary for people who have been affected by cancer.

Gillian Osborne, 48, of Wombleton, will be holding monthly yoga classes for cancer sufferers as well as family and friends.

The subject is close to Gillian as her mother has recently been diagnosed with cancer.

She said: “It was a real shock and completely out of the blue.

“I already have several ladies who have recovered from cancer in my other regular classes and they tell me how much yoga has helped them. I also know how much it helps me to cope with my mother’s situation.”

Gillian, who has been practicing yoga for more than 20 years, said: “I have been affected by seeing friends and relatives diagnosed with cancer. It is very draining when you are having treatment. Yoga is good for the mind as well.”

Gillian is using the classes to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support and will ask those who attend the classes for nothing except a donation to the charity.

Classes, which will take place on the first Friday of each month, will be held at the Friends’ Meeting House, Greengate, Malton, which Gillian has been able to use for free.
