Pickering's wartime weekend coming soon
8:15am Thursday 3rd October 2013 in News
STATIONS along the North Yorkshire Moors Railway will see the clock turned back 70 years when its Railway In Wartime Weekend is staged.
The annual event, which runs from October 11 to 13 and attracts thousands of spectators, will see Pickering Station handed over to re-enactors, who arrive at the station in their vintage civilian and military vehicles to recreate the look and feel of the 1940s.
Goathland Station will become a base for the Home Guard, while Grosmont Station will be handed over to the fliers, with a replica RAF Battle of Britain Spitfire and a recreation of a German Messerschmitt cockpit thrilling visitors. One highlight of the weekend will be a fly-past by a Tigermoth aircraft on the Saturday, weather permitting, and on Sunday morning there will be a Remembrance and wreath-laying service.
Tickets can be booked online at www.nymr.co.uk or from the station booking offices.
