Friends lose hair in aid of charity which supported their friend through cancer
12:50pm Wednesday 2nd October 2013 in News
IT WAS a case of hair today, gone tomorrow, for two women who lost their locks to raise funds for the charity which supported their friend through breast cancer.
Lizzy Townend and Laura Cummins were inspired to have their heads shaved after witnessing their friend, Kim Storey battle with the disease.
The pair, who live in Nawton, said they wanted to do something to raise funds for York Against Cancer which helped Kim who is currently in remission.
They were supported by Kim, along with their family and friends as they said goodbye to their hair at Goodies in Kirkbymoorside on Monday night.
Lizzy said it had been fantastic to have so much support from people.
“It was a bit of an ‘Oh my gosh moment’ when the scissors came out,” she said.
“It felt strange at first, and a bit cold, but I really like it.”
Lizzy said Kim, who was diagnosed with breast cancer last June after finding a hard lump, had been there to watch the head shave.
“It was lovely to have Kim and her partner there as well,” she said.
“We want to thank everyone for their support and all those who have made a donation so far.”
Anyone who would like to support Lizzy and Laura can do so be visiting
Sponsorship forms are also available at Goodies and Baines in Kirkbymoorside.
