MP aims to broker village sewer deal
9:10am Tuesday 1st October 2013 in News
A NORTH Yorkshire MP has stepped into a row over how a village’s faulty sewer system is to be repaired.
Proposals have been made to fix the system in Brawby, near Malton, which was hit by floods last year when sewers backed up.
But uncertainty surrounds which organisation will pay for the work.
Yorkshire Water and North Yorkshire County Council have both been contacted about the sewer problems but the question of responsibility for meeting the costs of the repairs has yet to be resolved.
Brawby resident Simon Thackray said: “We are living under the threat of further pollution and public nuisance as the bad weather and winter approaches, and it is simply unacceptable.
“We had a very productive conversation with Anne McIntosh and it is reassuring that she has pledged to work on our behalf to broker a resolution to the problem.”
