£4.25m Bedale, Aiskew and Leeming Bar bypass moves closer
8:34am Saturday 21st September 2013 in News
A £42.5 MILLION bypass in North Yorkshire has taken a major step forward after clearing the last hurdle in the planning process.
The Department for Transport has confirmed the compulsory purchase orders needed for the land for the route in Bedale, Aiskew and Leeming Bar, following a public inquiry.
There is now a six-week challenge period until October 11, while North Yorkshire County Council will have to submit a confirmed tender price for the route for Government approval.
The Government will pay £36 million of the scheme’s costs, with the county council paying the rest. Contracts could be awarded next April or May, with construction starting in July or August and the bypass earmarked for completion by October 2016.
Bedale mayor Coun Amanda Coates said: “We really welcome this and it is just a shame it has taken so long to get to this stage.”
